Llongau
Merch y llyn
In the Black Mountains of Carmarthenshire there is a lake. Up until the early 20th century the country people would walk there, from miles around, through the night of Lammas Eve to Llyn y Fan Fach to witness the waters being moved by the goddess, the mother of the Physicians of Myddfai. N.b. The king under the lake speaks in French for no reason other than to add a certain Je ne sais quoi to his presence in the story!
Clogwyni y mynydd yn codi fel ton
A'i copa n ddrych y llyn
Pob lammas mae'r pobl yn cerdded I'r wawr
Fel wnaeth ei cyndeidiau yn gynt
Disgwyl am y dduwes
Symud wedd y ddyfroedd
Daw iechyd I'r cnwd a lloi ym mhob fferm
Mae blwyddyn yn dilyn blwyddyn
Bugail Llanddeusant yn cerdded a'i gwn
Gofalu am defaid y rhos
Ffigwr oleuni, y ferch ger y llyn
Cadwodd e ar ddi-hun y nos
Disgwyl am y ferch
Ei frest yn llawn serch
Daeth hon ato wedyn, ar ol y trydydd ddydd
Hapusrwydd yn dilyn caru
Mais dans l'autre monde
Au dessus des vagues
Le roi n'etait pas content
Perdre une de ses jolies filles
Une de ses cheres enfants
'Non ma petite fille
tu doit rester ici
aller en haut, habiter comme mortal..
c'est une vie fatale!'
She called all the cattle and ox from the lake
on the day that she married the boy
'I'll love you and live with you all of my life
and not just a year and a day'
But he gave her cause, with three blameless blows..
With the cattle she went, her medicinal gifts
Were all that she left for her boys
